A Windy Road to Innovation: Between Technological Opportunities and User Centred Explorations

BIO:
Natasa Milic-Frayling is a researcher with the Integrated Systems team at Microsoft Research, Cambridge, working on technologies and designs for information access and communication systems. Her most recent work has been on user modelling in Web client applications and new modes of mobile and cross platform communication. She published and presented at Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, HCI, and Web related conferences, covering a range of topics from algorithm design and evaluation to system integration and usability studies, demonstrating her versatile interests and abilities.
Prior to joining Microsoft in June 1998, Natasa was working at Claritech Corporation (currently Clairvoyance Corporation), a spin-off company from Carnegie Mellon University focussed on developing information processing technologies and applications. There she served as Director of Research. Natasa obtained her B.S. in Applied Mathematics from University of Zagreb, Croatia in 1984 and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA in 1988.
