Wireless Networks: Present and Future
Distinguished
Keynote Speaker:
Professor Mohammad S. Obaidat
Abstract
The field of wireless networks systems has witnessed tremendous growth in recent years causing it to become one of the fastest growing segments of the telecommunications technology. As wireless networks evolve with increasing size and profitability, they will be able to integrate with other wireless technologies enabling them to support mobile computing applications and perform as efficiently as wired networks. Due to the difficulties posed by the wireless transmission medium and the increasing demand for better and cheaper services, the area of wireless networks is also an extremely rich field for research and development.
This keynote
will address the current trends in research and development in wireless networks
and communications. It also will shed some light on the future and challenges
facing progress in this fascinating technology. In particular, we will introduce
the fundamental enabling technologies, present standards of cellular systems
and wireless local area networks (WLANs), future of third generation (3G)
cellular systems and our vision for the 4G cellular systems being considered
worldwide. We will also look at satellite-based wireless networks, wireless
ATM and ad-hoc systems, wireless local loop, wireless Internet, personal area
networks (PANs) including Bluetooth and Home RF. Economics of wireless networks
as well as various possible charging algorithms will be reviewed and investigated.
Security issues and proposed solutions and challenges will be discussed and
evaluated. Finally, we will conclude by presenting some of our recent research
contributions to wireless networking.
